Small class sizes, high-quality academic programs, a close-knit campus – everything Danie Curtis-Williams heard about Radford University was exactly what she wanted in a college experience. After talking to admissions counselors at several college fairs, she applied to Radford sight unseen. Then she visited campus.
“There was just an unexplainable feeling of belonging and I knew this was where I wanted to spend the next four years of my life,” Curtis-Williams said.
Energetic and personable, Curtis-Williams knew she wanted to major in media studies to pursue her passion for the entertainment industry. Her outgoing personality leads her to make connections – a skill that when combined with her education should serve her well in her chosen career.
“I always knew I wanted to grow up and do what I loved and be able to make a living at it. Of course I thought there is no better way than to become a media studies major and surround myself with entertainment,” Curtis-Williams said.
The quality of the programs within Radford University’s School of Communication impressed her immediately. She feels the programs are giving her the solid background she needs for her future. She hopes to move to New York City and pursue a career working for a record label, a public relations firm or television network.
As part of her journey to make the most of her college experience, Curtis-Williams served as a Quest Assistant for new student orientation after her freshman year as a way to get to know the campus community and make connections with her classmates.
“I’ve met so many people at Radford who have added something special to my life,” she said. “I came here not knowing anyone and I am happy to say that I have made friends that I plan to have for life.”
