Originally from Bolivia, Wendy Viana knew she wanted to study graphic design in college. A high school guidance counselor pointed her to Radford University’s renowned College of Visual and Performing Arts. During a campus tour, she knew she had to make Radford University her educational home.

“I immediately fell in love with the campus and the amazingly welcoming people I met,” she said. “I did not want to miss the opportunity to study and grow in such an ideal environment.”

Viana applied and was offered admission knowing that a degree in graphic design was the path she would take once she arrived.

“I’ve always been an artist,” she said. “Creativity is my comfort zone and making art is what makes me happy. I love graphic design because of the endless career possibilities it will bring me.”

Her minor came as a surprise. Already fluent in Spanish, Viana says she did not want to miss out on the opportunity to learn another language, so she decided on a whim to give Chinese a try.

“It was kind of an impulsive decision and I was really drawn to it because I thought it would increase my chances of getting a great job after graduation, but my professor is so incredible, I decided to minor in it, and plan on studying abroad in China next year,” Viana said.

Once she’s completed her studies at Radford University, Viana has dreams of working internationally.

“I love traveling and I hope that by being bilingual I will be able to have a career as a graphic designer working on international projects,” she said.
