  5. Guest Artist Recital – Duo Fabricatore – Marco Battaglia and Robert Trent, 19th Century Guita »

    Sunday, September 25

    3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. @ Performance Hall in the Covington Center

The Duo Fabricatore, Robert Trent and Marco Battaglia, arises from the common passion of performing the music of the 19th century with original instruments of the period. The Fabricatore “family,” Giovanni Battista (John the Baptist) and his descendants, Gennaro I and II, were the most important luthiers in the city of Naples, itself one of the greatest cultural capitals of Europe of that era. Some instruments of this “family” are also part of the collections of the most important museums in the world. Now in a private collection in Italy, once two Gennaro Fabricatore guitars belonged to Niccolò Paganini, who wrote extensively for and with guitar, and to the most famous virtuoso of the six strings of the time, Mauro Giuliani. The two guitars that will be heard, from the private collections of Trent and Battaglia, are very rare and unique. The timbre and expressive possibilities in terms of the dynamics of these instruments make it possible to suggest how they were played at the time they were built, adding great charm to the live performances. The program includes compositions of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Joseph Haydn and Ludwig van Beethoven, all fantastically transcribed by the most important Neapolitan guitarist of the 19th century, Ferdinando Carulli, that is represented also with one of his original compositions. Free Admission.
