Advising

Academic advising plays a vital role in a student's college career. Advising often helps a student realize the importance of their major and how to best approach a program of study. The College of Visual and Performing Arts strives to provide effective advising that enhances the college experience. We have an open door policy and consistently encourage students to take advantage of this valuable service. We also encourage students to actively seek out answers to solve whatever problems may exist. In the end, those who are most successful are those who become involved in the process and use the valuable resources available to them.

CVPA Advising Center

Students in Visual and Performing Arts have several different resources for all of their advising needs. Students may turn to their college Advising Coordinator, Donna Oliver, who is located in 241 Porterfield, or the Assistant Advising Coordinator, Dana Trask, who is located in 240 Porterfield. In addition, each student is assigned a faculty advisor within their major. If you do not know your faculty advisor, call your department's administrative assistant for more information.

If you would like to schedule an appointment with the Advising Coordinator, just call (540) 831-6903 or email doliver4@radford.edu. To schedule an appointment with the Assistant Advising Coordinator, call (540) 831-5348 or email dctrask@radford.edu.

Advising Center Mission

The mission of our office within the College of Visual and Performing Arts is to provide developmental ways to foster student success, while encouraging students to explore their educational and career goals while at Radford University. In the office, the graduate assistants, assistant advising coordinator, and advising coordinator are more than willing to assist students in: exploration of educational and career options; clarification of university and departmental requirements; selection of appropriate courses; evaluation of academic progress; and obtaining referral information for academic and student support services. It is vital to us that each student is helped in a timely, concise manner and we strive to be open to every individual who walks into our office.
