  1. The National Poster Retrospecticus celebrates the art of gig posters at Radford University »

    In a college environment, posters are often the quintessential motif determining the design of many dorm rooms. But posters are so much more than this, especially hand-printed ones – they are an art form in their own right. Radford University Art Museum promotes this idea with the National Poster Retrospecticus (NPR), a gig and art poster show on exhibition from Sept. 8 to Oct. 7.

    Spring and summer may seem quiet on campus at Radford University, but looks are deceiving. The College of Visual and Performing Arts was extremely active with summer school, Quest, Radford University Ballet Youth’s International Summer Intensive Program and Governor’s School. And several of our professors, students and alumni sent of word of their recent achievements.

    International music therapists are learning how to engage and stimulate their clients’ imagination through a therapeutic process using classical music leading to core integration of mind, body and spirit thanks to the efforts of Jim Borling, director of Music Therapy at Radford University. During this summer, he provided trainings in The Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music in both Japan and Spain.

    At the first Radford University Summer Music Education Institute, Heather Kirby, a master teacher with 24 years' experience in elementary music education, dropped a scarf elegantly as she sang a few bars of a pleasant melody. She was demonstrating a lesson she gives to her primary education-aged students.

    The walls and exhibit cases at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport’s Gallery Walk feature a unique international collaboration of artworks. Beihang University’s Dr. Haoqin Gong and Radford University’s graphic design program present a diverse exhibition of traditional paintings and American design.

    Radford University Senior theatre major Kyle Gillikin sat behind a series of computers and electronic panels at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. Dressed in black and wearing a headset, he was an inconspicuous part of a well-refined machine that ran an ongoing series of events at the March 2016 United States Institute for Theatre Technology, Inc. (USITT) annual conference.

    Senior art major Amber Slusser-Brillhart presented a paper and art project at the 10th Annual Longwood University Undergraduate Medieval Conference. It was when she checked her email upon returning home she discovered she had won the conference’s Abels-Johnson Award for Excellence.
