Student groups create April RU race craze
As March exits like a lion, April enters with its running shoes. On behalf of charity, Radford University student groups are hosting three 5K running events, beginning this weekend.
On Sunday, April 6, at 1 p.m. in Radford's Bisset Park, The RU Pre-Medicine and the RU Pre-Dental Clubs will host the Run for Hope, on behalf of the Mission of Hope, a surgical clinic in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. Pre-Dental Club President Dylan McKnight, a senior biology major from Chesterfield, Va., spent a week last September at the urban clinic sterilizing surgical gear and experienced first-hand the clinic's need for new, basic surgical instruments like scalpels, clamps, retractors and laparoscopic instruments. The Run for Hope is open to the public and registration is $35. For more information, click here visit their website or contact McKnight at email@example.com.
RU's occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech therapy student associations and the Montgomery County Public Schools' On-Campus Transition Partnership are teaming up to host the second annual Light It Up Blue 5K on Saturday, April 12, at Bisset Park at 8 a.m. The organizers' goal is to surpass the almost $5,000 raised on behalf of autism awareness by more than 200 runners at last year's inaugural Light It Up Blue 5K. For more information, visit the Light It Up Blue website or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
