Adam Viet

Senior from Dublin, Va.
Major: Athletic Training in the College of Education and Human Development
Activities: Athletic Training student for the men’s basketball team and cheerleading team

While Virginia native Adam Viet enrolled in college in Texas while serving in the United States Air Force, he knew he wanted to finish his education in his home state after his service was fulfilled. He visited many colleges upon returning to the Commonwealth, but one stood out above all the others – Radford University.

“I participated in several summer camps hosted by Radford throughout my childhood and knew this was the school I wanted to attend,” said Viet, who hails from Dublin, Va.

After enrolling, Viet spoke with professors about the athletic training program. Highly competitive, the program accepts only 16 students per year. In addition to classwork, students must participate in clinical rotations.  Viet is currently completing his rotation by working as an athletic training student for the Radford University men’s basketball team and the cheerleading team.

Viet notes that one-on-one attention from the faculty and the camaraderie of his fellow athletic training majors contributes to his academic success.

“The faculty is great and always willing to help students to succeed,” he said. “It has also been fun being around my classmates.  The small cohort has become a very tight-knit group. We have nearly every class together.”

In addition to earning an exceptional grade point average in the challenging field, Viet has been researching the effectiveness of interferential current therapy in the treatment of back pain for one of his athletic training classes.

After he graduates, Viet hopes to obtain a graduate assistantship so he can continue his education in athletic training.
