After taking her first psychology class in high school, Dominique Boone knew she had found the perfect fit for a career helping others.

“I have always had an interest in helping others,” she said. “When I was younger, I was torn between a few different helping professions.” That high school class opened her eyes to a field that would allow her to provide services to people with a variety of concerns.

After earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in sociology at another university, Boone applied to Radford University’s clinical psychology program.

“I enjoyed the campus environment at Radford and really felt that my education would prepare me well to enter the field,” she said.

Through her studies at Radford University, Boone has been able to participate in research collaborations resulting in presentations at professional conferences, including the American Psychological Association Convention and the Southeastern Regional Counseling Psychology Conference, as well as academic forums and conferences.

As she’s continued her studies, Boone has also developed a deep interest in working with individuals experiencing trauma or dealing with substance abuse issues, as well as with veterans.

“I am particularly interested in veteran populations because I come from a long line of service members,” she said. “I strongly believe that those who have served our country deserve the best possible care and resources that we can afford them. For this reason, if I can help to provide services to a group of individuals that I admire and respect, I would be absolutely honored to do so.”

Upon completion of her doctoral program, Boone plans to provide counseling services to veterans through a VA Hospital or a community mental health setting focusing on veteran populations.
