Major: Economics and Marketing in the College of Business and Economics
Campus involvement: Senior Analyst for the Student Managed Investment Portfolio Organization (SMIPO), Radford University men’s soccer, Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity
British student Myles Jones never imagined he’d receive his undergraduate degree in the United States, but when the Radford University soccer team recruited him, he took a leap of faith. Without ever stepping foot on campus, Jones moved to Radford, Va., from Birmingham, England. His instincts served him well.
“At home you have to make a choice: soccer or school,” he said. “Here, I was offered the flexibility to do both.”
Although he’s in a new country, the cultural differences have been easy to navigate.
“Our cultures are very similar; however, it is the small, subtle differences in fashion and language that I really notice,” he said. “Regardless, Radford has become my second home.”
With a desire to join the business world, Jones sought out courses in the College of Business and Economics (COBE). He eventually decided to double major in marketing and economics. Jones says he spent most of his senior year in the new COBE building, which opened in Fall 2012. His favorite spot is the high-tech trading room, which simulates an actual financial operations center.
After graduation, Jones hopes to get his career started in the finance industry and ultimately return to school for an MBA.
