Kimber, Mason and Clay Miller

Kimber, Mason and Clay Miller enjoy a little time together during Family Weekend at Muse.

Radford University is gearing up to the host the 2013 Family Weekend, an annual celebration of the Highlander community full of socials, seminars, arts and athletics. Family Weekend festivities take place across campus from Friday, Oct. 18 to Sunday, Oct. 20 and will give parents, family and friends the opportunity to experience life at today's Radford.

Visitors to campus can check-in at the Hurlburt Student Center on Friday from noon to 7 p.m. and from 8 a.m. onwards on Saturday morning. After check-in, the options will seem limitless as every corner of campus hosts a special event.

On Saturday morning at 9 a.m., RU President Penelope Kyle will host the "Conversation with the President" in Bondurant Auditorium. The president will welcome families and provide an update about the university, to be followed by a question and answer session. A light breakfast reception will be held at the conclusion.

Some of the weekend activities planned include dance and theatre performances by students and faculty members, fascinating planetarium shows, seminars hosted by faculty members, open houses for RU's colleges and schools and the beloved Family Weekend Dog Show.

For athletic attendees, there are chances to cheer the Highlanders on to victory in volleyball, enter the 5K Family Fun Run or catch an early glimpse of this year's men's and women's basketball teams at the Highlanders Basketball Preview.

Experiencing everything RU has to offer might make visitors hungry. Dalton Kitchen, the Dalton Terrace Shops and the Hurlburt Student Center Food Court will be open extended hours during the weekend. On Sunday morning, Dalton Kitchen will host the Highlander Family Weekend Brunch, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
