Madeleine Reda, Deryk Jackson, and Dr. Lawrence Eppard (from left) presented "Status and Individualism" March 26 at the Southern Sociological Society's annual meeting in New Orleans.  The paper is based on an ongoing research project examining the relationship between status and poverty attribution ideologies, and sponsored by the Center for Social and Cultural Research and the Department of Sociology.

CSCR Partnership with the Wilderness Road Regional Museum

CSCR Director Dr. Mary LaLone and Dr. Carolyn Mathews, President of the New River Historical Society, established a university-community partnership in 2012 that allows RU classes and interns to apply their research skills as they assist the Wilderness Road Regional Museum in planning and development activities.  Dr. LaLone has been awarded a Scholar Citizen Initiative grant to support an "Engaging the Community" class for Fall 2015 semester (SCI/SOCY 486).  The class will serve as a consulting team to work collaboratively with the museum on community outreach and educational planning.  Contact Dr. LaLone to learn more.

Roots With Wings Project wins $640 grant from the Community Foundation of the New River Valley

Since 2007, led by Dr. Melinda Wagner, the CSCR has collaborated with the Floyd Story Center and Floyd County High School to record the stories of WW II in Floyd County. The grant from the Community Foundation of the NRV will support the continued work of this collaboration.

CSCR Receives $20,000 Verizon Grant for WRC Project


Dr. Jeanne Mekolichick was awarded a $20,000 grant from the Verizon Foundation to support their work assessing the Peaceline Plus program for the Women's Resource Center of the New River Valley.
