Beginning on Wednesday, May 1, Goodwill Edgar donation boxes will be placed across the RU campus as 24-hour drop-off points for gently used, unwanted items that can be donated to Goodwill. Only small, non-breakable items can be donated in the Edgar boxes.
Acceptable items include clothes, shoes, purses, belts, books, games, CDs and DVDs, household items, furniture, carpets, electronics, computers and computer equipment, small appliances and canned and non-perishable food.
Among items not accepted at the Edgar boxes are major appliances, mattresses, box springs, pads, futons, upholstered furniture with stains or holes, and perishable food.
All donations support Goodwill job training and community employment programs for youth, adults and seniors.
In addition to Goodwill’s Edgar boxes, several additional staffed drop-off sites will be set up across campus from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on May 7-9 to collect unwanted but sound residence hall items that students no longer want.
Collection sites will be at Moffett Hall, Muse Hall, Peery Hall, Pocahontas Hall, between Ingles and Draper halls, and between Madison and Jefferson halls.
Donating clothing and household items diverts waste from landfills, furthering RU's commitment to sustainability. By giving items to Goodwill, RU students are giving back to the community where Goodwill resells the items affordably to the public in the New River and Roanoke valleys.
