Since 1995, the Scottish Rite Foundation has sponsored a summer camp on the Radford campus for children with speech and communication disorders including autism (pictured above).

These children, ranging in age from toddler to teen, have a rare opportunity to take part in typical summer camp activities: art and crafts, singing and dancing, listening to stories told by counselors. Associate Professor Diane Millar, director of the camp, says of the Scottish Rite’s generosity, “I am not sure they truly understand the extent of their kindness.”

The camp also is a clinical opportunity for Radford University graduate students, who learn to help these children with challenges through music, dance and art therapy. It benefits everyone involved – children and their families, RU students and professors.

Special projects like the Scottish Rite camp would not be possible without support from private donors. Their gifts also support cutting-edge research, state-of-the-art facilities, scholarships, fellowships and endowed faculty positions. Each gift helps to transform the landscape of learning at Radford University.
