Interior Design and Fashion Lists Accomplishments

RADFORD – The Radford University Department of Interior Design and Fashion’s chair Lennie Scott-Webber with faculty member Julie Temple and Center for Innovations in Teaching and Learning’s Krista Terry, and Charles Cosmato have received a $48,000 donation from Steelcase Inc.’s Education Solutions Group for the iLAB research facility at RU. This donation, channeled through the Center for Innovations in Teaching and Learning, will focus on understanding pedagogy in interactive learning environments.

Other recent activities in the department include:

• Holly Cline was presented with the university-wide Distinguished Faculty Advising Award and with a Presidential citation for her leadership for Interior Design Continuing Education Council (IDCEC). She also obtained LEED_AP certification status;

• John Jacob, Tammy R. Robinson, Kathy Mitchell and Farrell Doss’s presented, “Counterfeit and Designer Handbags and Fashion Opinion Leadership: Young Female Consumer Preferences” at the annual convention of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences in Knoxville, Tennessee. Jacob also presented “Double golden anniversary frock” as a juried design exhibition at the annual meeting of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences in Knoxville;

• Summer research grants were awarded to Joan Dickinson, John Jacob and Lennie Scott-Webber;

• Joan I. Dickinson, L.A. Anthony and J.P. Mardsen’s article “Faculty perceptions regarding research: “Are we on the right track?” is in press for the Journal of Interior Design. Dickinson will be a new ad-hoc reviewer for the journal;

• Julie Temple received a grant from Fairchild Publications supporting a continuing research project, “Content analysis of introductory interior design college textbooks, a study revisited;”

• 2009 interior design graduates Maggie Gordon, Laurie Ellerman and Ashleigh Cotter passed the LEED exam and received LEED AP status;

• Arts Society scholarships were awarded to Margurit Cleverdon, Allison Foster, Dashonna Jones and LaToya Williams;

• Jennifer Hayes received the Roslyn Lester scholarship, Elizabeth VanSant received the Fernand Gard Fashion Design scholarship and Kayleigh Calloway received a Radford Foundation Scholarship award.
