"Ballyhoo" Sets the Atmosphere for Halloween

BallyhooRADFORD – Radford University’s presentation of “Son of Ballyhoo II,” part of the university’s cinema symposium, has been changed to Wednesday, Oct. 28, 7 p.m., in Pridemore Playhouse. The original date was Wednesday, Oct. 21.

Cinema faculty Ted McKosky has a reputation for hosting rather intriguing -- and unusual -- presentations and “Son of Ballyhoo II” will be among the most intriguing to date.

“Ballyhoo” was the gentle art of luring people to the movies using gimmicks so amusing they wouldn’t be upset when they realized the ruse. McKosky leads an illustrated talk on the colorful history of this practice, which includes the likes of P.T. Barnum, motion picture pioneers, Kroger Babb and William Castle, “Emergo” and “Smell-O-Vision.” The presentation has mature themes and viewer discretion is advised.

Tickets are free and may be picked up at the Box Office in Porterfield Hall during the week of the performance.
