Research Teams

accelerate-small-home

Students display their award-winning research poster.

Students who elect to participate in the Accelerate research experience will receive an email introduction to the scholarship opportunities through Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarship (OURS).

Once on campus, the formation of a learning community will be further cultivated through shared experiences including having the opportunity to be housed together, take a common section of UNIV 100, and events, such as, the Summer Research Celebration.

During the fall semester students in Accelerate will attend a weekly seminar series, which will introduce them to the Accelerate research themes and faculty. At the end of the fall semester, the students will choose a research team to join for the spring semester.

About the Research Teams

The teams that you will be eligible to join are detailed below, and the research experience will range from observation to data collection, analysis and reporting.

Topic

Description

Ecophysiology

Students will work in the RU Ecophysiology lab to explore how organisms deal with a dynamic environment. The RU Ecophysiology lab works with a wide range of organisms from birds to bacteria and explore the influence of both natural and man-made changes to the environment on factors such as growth, reproduction, health, and behavior.

Mobile Learning Games

Students will work in the Mobile Innovation Learning Lab (MILL) to develop mobile learning games and location-based augmented reality experiences. Learn more about the GAMeS Lab and MILL.

Drug Discovery and Disease Prevention

THIS RESEARCH TEAM IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE. IT IS FULL.

Students will investigate new ways to block viruses and treat cancer.

Crime, Law, and Justice

Students will explore why crime occurs, what can be done about it, and how justice can be pursued. Criminal justice is a dynamic social science in which research explores and shapes questions related to crime control policy.

Behavioral and Cognitive Neuroscience Lab (BACN)

THIS RESEARCH TEAM IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE. IT IS FULL.

Students will assist in the study of the mutual interactions between brain, behavior, and cognition. Current research emphasizes the effects of drugs of abuse on brain development and behavior, and the pharmacology of memory processes.

Sustainability and Environmental Studies

As part of the Sustainability and Environmental Studies Track, students will employ environmental and geospatial science techniques to understand sustainable environments over space and time.

Anthropological Science

Students will join the anthropological faculty in their research in archaeology, biological archaeology, and forensic anthropology.

Autism Spectrum Disorders Students will study the process of evaluating and treating individuals with autism spectrum disorders by conducting innovative clinical research alongside a faculty mentor.
Design Competition Students will participate in a video design competition to gain an understanding of the design process as it relates to brainstorming, collaboration, information gathering, design evaluation, and design implementation within a collaborative design team.

Innovation, Analytics, and Business

THIS RESEARCH TEAM IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE. IT IS FULL.

Students will explore either how social media changes innovation and other key processes within organizations, or innovations in financial analysis.

Tiny House Project

Students will participate in an interdisciplinary design studio, the Tiny House project, to gain an understanding of the issues and impact of sustainable practices in the residential environment and weigh design decisions within the parameters of ecological, socioeconomic, and cultural contexts.

Nursing

THIS RESEARCH TEAM IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE. IT IS FULL.

Students will work with faculty to explore how various aspects of nursing affect quality of life.
