Dr. Joe Beckett, ATC


Dr. Beckett is a native of Bluefield, West Virginia who begins his first year at Radford University. He received his bachelor’s degree from Wittenberg (OH) University, the master’s degree from Marshall (WV) University, and his doctoral degree in Educational Leadership with a minor in Sports Medicine from West Virginia University. During his 32 years in higher education, Dr. Beckett has served as a department chair at two private institutions, the University of Charleston (WV) and Marietta College (OH), and was the founding department chair or program director at three institutions, Glenville State College (WV), the University of Charleston, and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Dr. Beckett has created three athletic training education programs during his career, two at the undergraduate level and one at the graduate level. In these capacities, Dr. Beckett has played a significant role on the maturation of undergraduate and graduate Athletic Training education in the 21st century through his involvement on national, regional, and state committees, serving as an accreditation site visitor, and via his extensive involvement as an external consultant for institutions desire to obtain or renew their athletic training accreditation. His expertise and interest includes: organizational and administrative Leadership, curriculum and facility development, public relations, consulting, marketing, athletic training and sports medicine education, clinical instruction, international education, and health sciences administration. Dr. Beckett and his wife, Sandie, are empty nesters who have two sons and one daughter.
