Course Flexibility

Deaf education coursework, leading to licensure in Hearing Impairment PreK-12, is offered in several distance education formats for the convenience of those living too far from Radford to commute to weekly on campus classes.

Course Format
EDSP 426/526. Introduction to Deaf and Hard of Hearing (no prerequisite) Hybrid Course - Three required on-campus meetings and the rest of the course content is online.
EDSP 428/628. Language Development and Literacy for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students (prerequisite: EDSP 426/526) Two Week Intensive Summer Seminar - Students stay on campus for two weeks during the summer and attend daily class meetings.
EDSP 427/527. Curriculum and Methods for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students Two Week Intensive Summer Seminar - Students stay on campus for two weeks during the summer and attend daily class meetings.
COSD 422/EDSP 625. Audiologic Assessment and Intervention (prerequisite EDSP 426/526) Two Week Intensive Summer Seminar - Students stay on campus for two weeks during the summer and attend daily class meetings.

Coursework required for licensure in Hearing Impairment PreK-12, which is not specific to deaf education, may be taken at other Virginia colleges and universities. Partial tuition reimbursement for these courses is currently available through the grant.

*Required for HI licensure but is not specific to deaf education. This course can be taken through Radford University in a distance education format.
