Entrance Essay Guidelines
Students are required to submit a 2-3 page essay articulating why they want to enter the Interdisciplinary Studies program. This essay should include the following components:
- Begin with an introductory paragraph discussing your educational and career goals.
- Next, articulate the competencies you seek to gain in your education that will connect with your career goals (name at least two career paths)
- Finally, articulate why your educational and career goals are best met by the Interdisciplinary Studies in Liberal Arts program. Here (1) name and discuss the focus areas you are selecting for the major, and (2) connect the focus areas, communicating how you see these areas relating to one another and leading you on a path to your educational and career goals. In these paragraphs discuss the key skills and knowledge bases from each focus area that are transferable to the multiple career paths you identify.
In a table following your essay, identify the courses (by name, discipline, and course number) you plan to use to complete the major. For each, discuss how it fits into your proposed course of study. To view a sample IDSL application, please select one of the options below:
