Design Students Receive PAVE Scholarships

PAVE winners: Miranda Schrock and Sarah Shirley

Two Radford University students, Miranda Schrock and Sarah Shirley, have each been awarded a $1,500 scholarship courtesy of the Planning and Visual Education Partnership (PAVE), a non-profit trade association that represents the retail environments industry. The PAVE scholarship program supports students studying retail design, planning, and visual merchandising.

“My merchandising professors, Tammy Robinson and Farrell Doss, informed me of the scholarship over this past summer.  I decided to apply because the scholarship description seemed to fit my needs perfectly,” Schrock said.  Part of the merchandising program requires students to complete an internship before graduating from the program. “This scholarship will help me pay for the mandatory internship I will be doing the summer of 2013.”

After graduation Miranda plans to pursue a career in fashion merchandising as a buyer.  “It always helps to ask your professors or the head of the department if there are any scholarships available,” Schrock said.
