RU Art Professor Receives Three Top awards at International Watercolor Exhibitions

Ranch Foreman by Z.L. Feng

Z.L. Feng, professor of art at Radford University, recently won three top awards at international watercolor exhibitions. Feng’s painting “Ranch Foreman” received first place at the 43rd Annual International Exhibition of the Louisiana Watercolor Society at the Garden District Gallery in New Orleans, La. from May 2013.

His painting is featured on the cover of the show catalogue and he writes, “Ranch Foreman is of a local farmer living nearby. I tried to use all the watercolor techniques to capture his soul. I did a drawing study first, then I used wet on wet, wet on dry and dry brush to create the fine detail of his face and his eyes... Working on a watercolor portrait is a very exciting job, which takes a lot of time to get right but                                                                                 is always a pleasure.”
