Nineteen RU students receive awards during the Juried Student Art Show

The annual Radford University Juried Student Art Show opened March 27 at the Bondurant Center for the Arts Downtown in Radford, Va. The show features 49 works by all levels of RU students and includes ceramics, metalsmithing, mixed media, painting and photography.

Juror Amy Moorefield says of the work, “I was very impressed by the quality and variety of work entered.”

Moorefield is the deputy director of exhibitions at the Taubman Museum in Roanoke, Va. During the selection process, she also bestowed 18 awards. Award winners are:

  • Graduate Award of Excellence to Jordan Blevins for Fluid
  • Undergraduate Award of Excellence to Jonathan Farley for Untitled
  • Graduate Award of Distinction to Keturie Hehn for 6½ x 12
  • Graduate Award of Distinction to Aaron Forrester for Kimberly
  • Undergraduate Award of Distinction to Kirstyn Montgomery for Portrait of Dad
  • Undergraduate Award of Distinction to Jennifer Ussery for Dragon Riders Reliquary
  • Award of Merit to Alex Bagshaw for It's OK
  • Award of Merit to Will Sawyer for Tea Pot White Crackle
  • Award of Merit to Jarrod Wilson for Last of the Brood
  • Award of Merit to Nathan Popp for Sunken
  • Award of Merit to Catherine Baker for Trap
  • Award of Merit to Grace Kim for Anna
  • Award of Merit to Cecilia Morris for Seed
  • Award of Merit to Courtney Lantz for Seated Figure
  • Honorable Mention to Adrienne Oates for Helping Hand
  • Honorable Mention to Elizabeth Carr for Awareness Prolonged
  • Honorable Mention to Jed Anglade for The Abyss
  • Honorable Mention to Emily Blunt for Protected Identity

The revered Art Museum Purchase Award was also presented during the opening reception. The selected piece that becomes a permanent part of the RU Art Museum collection was chosen by museum director Dr. Steve Arbury and museum exhibition designer Dr. Richard Bay. This year’s winner was graduate student Karie Edwards for her photograph Hansel & Gretel.

Arbury says, “The museum is extremely pleased to have this innovative rendering of a traditional theme in the permanent collection.”

The Juried Student Show is on exhibit from March 27 to April 13 at the RU Art Museum Downtown at the Bondurant Center for the Arts at 1129 E. Main St., Radford, Va.
