Usurping a throne, a long lost twin son and a duel are all part of the annual Radford University Madrigal Dinner. “The Saga of Mordrick the Foule (Fowl) or The Great Chicken Coup!” is the title of the Dec. 5 and 6 festivities at the Muse Banquet Hall.

“After the untimely demise of the current monarch, a distant relative Mordrick the Foule and his ugly wife Hester usurp the throne,” said David Castonguay, associate professor of music about the performance. “A sticking coup conflict ensues until the long lost twin son of the previous monarch makes an appearance and defeats Mordrick in a duel of ‘clichés.’"

Along with the twist and turns, also included during each evening are a processional and pageantry in Renaissance costume, a banquet dinner, tables serenaded by waiters and the royal court, and a concert of Renaissance and Christmas music.

Selected through a campus wide audition for membership into the RU Madrigal Singers, students fill both musical and theatrical roles.

Tickets are $33 for the general public and $28 with RU ID (two each). Tickets go on sale Nov. 12 and are available online at http://radfordactivities.universitytickets.com or at the Hurlburt Hall Information Desk (540-831-5420). The dinners begin at 6 p.m. on Dec. 5 and 6.

The Madrigal Dinners are recommended for audience goers who are five and older. For more information, please call 540-831-5177.
