Each year, the College of Visual and Performing Arts carefully selects world-class professional groups to perform for the campus and surrounding communities. These artistic, creative gems are not to be missed.

Arturo SandovalArturo Sandoval

Arturo Sandoval is now considered the leading Latin Jazz performer in America. However, he is immensely versatile in all jazz idioms and his virtuosity on trumpet is regarded as among the best in the world. He will be making a return to Radford University with his 6-piece group. Sandoval, whose life was portrayed in an HBO movie titled "For Love or Country," has won numerous Grammy, Billboard, and Emmy awards and has performed with hundreds of major jazz artists, bands, symphony and pops orchestras throughout the world. Sandoval and his band will present a jazz experience second-to-none!

State Symphony Orchestra of Mexico

February 8th at 8 p.m.
Bondurant Auditorium, Preston Hall

The State Symphony Orchestra of Mexico is the first major symphony orchestra to perform at Radford University in almost thirty years. Founded in 1971, the orchestra, under the direction of maestro Enrique Batiz has performed throughout the world. Their Radford University presentation will include works by Brahms, Schumann, Revueltas, and Rodrigo's landmark work, "Concerto Aranjuez" featuring guitarist Alfonso Moreno. The evening promises a "world-class" music experience!

The Silver-Garburg Piano DuoThe Silver-Garburg Piano Duo

The Silver-Garburg Piano Duo was founded in 1997 blending the artistry of Sivan Silver and Gil Garburg. In those ten years, they have gained enthusiastic acclaim and renown from stages around the world including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Berlin Philharmonic, Finlandia Hall, Beijing National Radio, Rome's New Auditorium, Teato Colon, Palacio Nacional de Bellas Artes to name only a few. The young performers have toured the world many times over, winning dozens of international competitions and have a number of recordings to their credit. Residing and teaching in Germany, their performance at Radford University will be part of their 2008 United States tour.

St. Petersburg Ballet theatre

April 10th at 8 pm
Bondurant Auditorium, Preston Hall

Radford University welcomes the St. Petersburg Dance Theatre performing the exquisite ballet "Carmen," choreographed by Yuri Petukhov with music by Georges Bizet. The company, originally founded in 1966 is now considered one of the most distinguished classical companies in Russia coming from a city known to be the birthplace of Russian Classical Ballet. It has toured to over 50 countries in addition to its home performances in the prestigious Mariinsky and Hermitage Theatres. The timeless story of the captivating and dangerously charming gypsy Carmen is elegantly portrayed through Petukhov's choreography and staging and will guarantee a truly exciting night of exceptional ballet!
