Hometown: Under Your Bed
Major: Political Science in the College of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences
When Michael Monster was a young creature, he spent most of his time hiding under kids’ beds and scaring them in the middle of the night. As the children he scared grew older and began researching colleges, Michael began to wonder if a lifetime scaring people was really what he wanted.
He decided to sign up for a campus tour at Radford University, but was nervous about the reaction he’d receive. He was pleasantly surprised.
“People here are so friendly!” he said. “At a lot of places, people would scream and run away, but Radford has been really welcoming.”
After getting involved in student government, Michael realized that a future in politics would help him realize his dream of improving relationships between monsters and humans. As a bonus, he’d be scaring adults with his policy decisions instead of scaring little kids by grabbing their ankles when they get up in the middle of the night.
“My ultimate goal is to be President of the United States,” he said. “Maybe I can help the next generation become more accepting of monsters.”
Michael, portrayed by theatre performance student Felix Birdie, was photographed in the Pridemore Playhouse. His make-up was designed by theatre student Lyndsay Halpin.
