This week in Highlanders in the News: Radford hosts this year’s Big South Conference’s esports tournament and scores two big titles; Roanoke special education teacher Kenai Hunt ’21, M.S. ’22, lends support to the school system of her youth; and Ripken, the famous black Lab trained by Michael O’Donnell ’10, is back to save the Durham Bulls’ bats.

This week in Highlanders in the News: ESPN star Marty Smith ’98 drops in on the “Dale Jr. Download” podcast for an extended chat that revisits his formative years at Radford; artist, teacher and photographer Heather Renee, M.F.A. ’21, kicks off a new exhibit of digital photography; Recreation and Wellness Director D.J. Preston talks shop on the Campus Rec podcast; and Evan Jacobson, M.A. ’95, discusses his life behind a drumkit. 

In January, the university’s fiber artist club knitted, crocheted and sewed 120 pieces of cold-weather wear as part of its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service giveaway.

Radford University’s 24th annual Advocacy Day in Richmond continued the longest-running tradition among Virginia’s four-year public institutions of student-led engagement with state lawmakers to advance issues critical to higher education as well as initiatives that benefit all residents of the Commonwealth.
