Gabi Richards has a passion for the outdoor environment, and it shows. From getting her feet wet in research by walking local streams in search of microscopic bugs to traveling to North America’s northernmost city to collect core ice samples in minus-20 degrees Fahrenheit temperatures, Richards has made the most of her brief time at Radford.

This week in Highlanders in the News: Geology professors Skip Watts and Beth McClellan help local news plumb the depths of Mountain Lake; Marty Smith ’98 has Heisman-centric plans this weekend; Kwabena Osei-Sarpong ’05 helps take care of business; and Amherst County taps longtime firefighter Brad Beam ’21 as its new director of public safety.

“I hope that I will be able to guide students… in seeing the beauty of everything," Miriam Jones ‘22 said. “I’m hoping, as an educator, that I’ll help students be excited to continue learning as they grow and to continue to find unique ways to share their passions.”

When Josey Lackey was a Radford University pre-nursing student, she attended meetings of the Student Nursing Organization in hopes of one day being part of the group. Little did she know that a few years later, she would be leading it as the organization’s president while earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

More than 300 Radford University students took over the third floor of Kyle Hall on Nov. 10, 2022, to demonstrate and discuss their fall semester research into the wicked problems plaguing society.

The higher education resource guide has ranked Radford University in the upper end of its recent list, "Best Online Colleges in Virginia 2023." The site also gave Radford its award for Best Accelerated Degrees.

The esteemed financial publication included the Davis College of Business and Economics' program on the upper-end of its 2023 listings of the country's top part-time MBA programs.

Radford University is one of the most engaged college campuses for student voting in 2022, according to a new ranking by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge.

On Oct. 27, during the fall conference of the Virginia Governor’s Finance Officers Association, the organization presented Bruce Chase, Ph.D., CPA, with a special award “in recognition of dedicated service to Radford University GNAC and support to the VGFOA.”
