SGA to sponsor election day voter rally on campus
Anticipation is growing for Virginia’s upcoming general election, in which voters will choose their next governor, new state delegates and local office holders such as commonwealth's attorney, sheriff, commissioner of revenue and treasurer.
This year, the Radford University Student Government Association (SGA) will do their part to excite the student body with the very first RU Get Out the Vote Rally on election day, Nov. 5, outside the Hurlburt Student Center from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
To bring the rally to life, the SGA partnered with Rock the Vote, the national nonpartisan, non-profit group that helps students reach polling stations and educates them about candidates and issues.
Rock the Vote and SGA will provide stations where students can get together, mingle, learn about the election and get a ride to the polling station at the Radford Recreation Center.
“The easier and more fun it is, the more likely students will vote,” says Lee Hicks, a SGA At-Large Senator. "With music and food, and hopefully a golf cart or two, we'll make that happen."
