Joel Hanlon '09 has been appointed senior assistant director for the Office of New Student Programs at Radford University.

Hanlon, who worked in the office when he was an RU student, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Radford and a Master of Science in higher education and student affairs from Syracuse University.

Hanlon's primary responsibilities will be directing all activities for Quest, the university's student orientation program. He will assist in teaching UNIV 100, an introductory course for incoming students on college life.

"I came back to Radford University because orientation is my area of interest, and Radford is a perfect size institution to have the ability to work with students on a one-on-one basis to help develop their leadership skills," Hanlon said.

Hanlon comes to Radford from the University of South Carolina, where he served as a residential life coordinator.

Mike Dunn, director of the Office of New Student Programs, said, "We’re excited about Joel returning to work at RU, his alma mater, and helping us in the delivery of programs to serve new students. I’m confident that our student leaders and colleagues across campus will appreciate working with him as a person and professional."
