Radford listed among the nation's best-value colleges

Best Value Colleges

Radford University earned national recognition as a public education institution listed in "The Best Value Colleges: 2013 Edition," published Tuesday by The Princeton Review.

The book profiles 75 public and 75 private colleges and universities chosen by The Princeton Review after reviewing academic, cost and financial-aid data from 650 institutions nationwide, as well as student opinion surveys conducted from Fall 2011 through Fall 2012.

"This ranking is reaffirmation that Radford University provides its students with an exceptional value," Radford University President Penelope W. Kyle said. "We know that students consider many factors in their decisions about which university is best for them. We are pleased that The Princeton Review has recognized Radford's commitment to providing our students with a superior education that is also within reach financially."

About Radford, The Princeton Review writes, "Radford provides a broad scope of academic opportunities and distinctive level of academic attention for a bargain price. Class sizes are smaller, and professor quality higher, than many other public universities."

James Pennix, the university’s dean of admissions, said, "RU is one of the best academic values in Virginia. We offer a number of options to ensure that students from all demographic and economic strata have the means to reach their educational goals."

In the 2011-12 academic year, Radford awarded more than $1.2 million in academic excellence scholarships, for which all qualified students were automatically considered, and nearly $2 million in need-based aid. Scholarships are also available to students for specific fields of study, including business, education, allied health, the humanities, science and technology, and visual and performing arts.
