National report on diversity ranks RU in top 100 for five majors

Radford University is ranked among the top 100 producers in the United States of minority degrees for 2013 in academic programs. The special report, produced by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education, provides rankings according to the total number of degrees awarded to minority students across all disciplines as well as in specific disciplines.

Among African-American students, RU ranked 47th in physical sciences degrees and 97th in marketing degrees awarded. Among Asian-American students, RU ranked 70th in parks, recreation, leisure and fitness, 80th in interdisciplinary studies and 86th in marketing degrees earned.

"This report confirms RU’s continued commitment to diversity," said RU President Penelope W. Kyle. "Radford University prides itself on being a student-focused institution. We firmly believe that every student brings important individual perspectives and experiences to the educational experience, which are so important to developing our students to be scholar-citizens," Kyle added.

An indication of RU’s increasing student diversity is that the fall 2012 incoming freshman class was comprised of nearly 25% racial and ethnic minorities, ranking as the University’s most diverse class to date.

The ranking system analyzed preliminary data from U.S. Department of Education reports submitted by the public, private and for-profit higher education institutions and colleges for the 2011-2012 academic year.
