Abhay Kaushik, an assistant professor of finance, is this year’s winner of the College of Business and Economics (COBE) Outstanding Faculty Award.

COBE Dean Faye Gilbert presented Kaushik with the award at the college’s 2013 commencement ceremony on May 11. The professor was honored for his integrity, work ethic, contributions and excellent publication record, Gilbert said at the ceremony.

In the past six years, Kaushik has published more than 10 journal articles, presented to 10 different professional audiences, contributed to a half-dozen professional organizations and served as the advisor to two student organizations, Gilbert noted.

"He not only serves as an advisor but shepherds his students as they attend national conferences," Gilbert said. "He has contributed time to the committees of COBE and of RU and also manages to be excited about every positive step we take as a campus and every achievement of his students."

Kaushik chairs Radford University's Resource Allocation Committee and recently was approved for tenure by the RU Board of Visitors. He also has been selected to serve as faculty advisor for COBE's Student Managed Investment Portfolio Organization (SMIPO).

"It was a big honor, and it was a very pleasant surprise for me," said Kaushik, who did not know in advance that his name would be called during the COBE ceremony. "I had no clue. I had absolutely no clue. It was a very special moment for me."
