Highlanders moving in

The countdown is over.

Move-in day at Radford University will commence on Friday, Aug. 22.

Residence halls open Friday beginning at 8 a.m. On campus move-in continues through Saturday, Aug. 23.

This fall, RU is welcoming 1,986 new freshmen to campus. Thirty-eight percent are first-generation students, meaning they are the first from their families to attend college. There are 1,158 female freshmen and 828 males.

RU's Welcome Weekend is chock-full of fun events, including games, movies and music. The Class of 2018 freshmen photo is scheduled for Friday night. Students will form the numbers "2018" on Heth Lawn. President Penelope W. Kyle will address students on Sunday, Aug. 24, during the New Student Convocation, along with guest speaker Eric Thomas.

Students are encouraged to share their move-in day experiences using the hashtag #RadfordMoveIn.

Classes will begin on Monday, Aug. 25.

Friday, Aug. 22

New student photo on Heth Lawn: 6:30 p.m.

RU Ready Bash in the Hurlburt Student Center: 8:30 p.m.

Saturday, Aug. 23

Move-in Madness on Heth Lawn: Noon-5:30 p.m.

Sunday, Aug. 24

New Student Convocation in Bondurant Auditorium with guest speaker Eric Thomas: 7 p.m.

*Monday, Aug. 25, kicks off RU's BE S.E.E.N. (Be Successful Through Engagement and Education Now), a six-week program series of themed educational, community and social involvement opportunities.

Navigating and parking

Find your way around Radford with our campus map.

Radford Transit will provide service every hour on Saturday, Aug. 23, from the Radford University Hub (Main Street and Tyler Avenue, next to SunTrust) to the Fairlawn Walmart and the Christiansburg New River Valley Mall. This service will be free for students presenting their Radford University-issued ID. Passengers, including students, not presenting a Radford University-issued ID will be charged the $1 fare collected prior to departing from and returning to the Radford University Hub. More details will be available at the residence hall check-in tables and at the Bonnie Student Center Information desk.

Move-in assistance

Hundreds of volunteers representing RU's various clubs and organizations will be on hand Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. to help you move into your residence hall.

Dining

Students can start using their Fall 2014 Meal Plan on Friday, Aug. 22.
