Show the world your recycling selfie

The next time you're in the process of recycling, grab your phone and take a selfie.

In celebration of America Recycles Day on Nov. 15, Radford University Recycling is encouraging the campus community to capture a photo while recycling.

Participants can post the photo on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Instagram accompanied by the hashtag #RecyclingSelfie. The campaign runs through Nov. 20, and and selfies will be displayed on the America Recycles Day website.

RU Recycling also is encouraging participation in an America Recycles Day Twitter chat on Nov. 20, beginning at 8 p.m. During the social media chat, participants can share recycling ideas and tips using the designated hashtag: #AmericaRecyclesDay.

And don’t forget to take the "I Recycle" pledge.

A campuswide email will be distributed on Nov. 14 to remind the campus community to take the online pledge. Last year, RU Honors Academy Director Joe King won a recycled bench when he was selected in a drawing out of the more than 8,000 individuals and organizations who made a commitment to recycle.

Individuals and businesses may take the online pledge at the America Recycles Day pledge website.

An information table about America Recycles Day is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hurlburt Student Center.
