Radford University has been named by The Princeton Review as one of 140 institutions in its "Best in the Southeast" section of its "2016 Best Colleges: Region by Region" edition.

Radford University has earned this special recognition every year since 2004.

"The Princeton Review has continuously acknowledged the quality of a Radford University education and the diversity of opportunities that we offer our students," said President Penelope W. Kyle. "Through the dedication, commitment and hard work of our faculty and staff, Radford University’s focus is on developing our students to achieve success in their future careers. This latest recognition by The Princeton Review confirms we meet that goal year after year.”

In its website profile on Radford University, The Princeton Review describes the university as "mid-sized," "affordable" and "very student-oriented."

"We chose Radford University and the other outstanding institutions on this list primarily for their excellent academics," said Robert Franek, The Princeton Review's Senior VP-Publisher. The Princeton Review editors made their selections based on data the company collected from its survey of administrators at several hundred colleges in each region, as well as its staff visits to schools, and the perspectives of college counselors and advisors whose opinions the company solicits.

"We also gave careful consideration to what students enrolled at the schools reported to us about their campus experiences on our student survey for this project," Franek said.

From the 'Radford Students Say' section under Academics, The Princeton Review reports the following: "The professors here would have to be Radford's greatest strength," says a communication major. Many faculty members are "very personable, affable, and helpful." They "want to teach." "They're easy to get in touch with and easy to talk to and ask questions," adds a sociology major. Also, "classes are smaller, which makes it easier to get one-on-one attention."

The 140 colleges that The Princeton Review chose for its "Best in the Southeast" 2016 list are located in 12 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. The Princeton Review also designated 225 colleges in the Northeast, 125 in the West and 159 in the Midwest as best in their locales on the company’s "2016 Best Colleges: Region by Region" lists.

Radford University is joined by 21 other Virginia universities on the list.
