Radford University alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends turned the national day of giving, #GivingTuesday, into #RadTuesday on November 28.

More than 200 supporters gave to the Radford University college or program they cared about the most during the 24-hour day of giving, surpassing the University’s goal of 107 donors in honor of Radford University’s 107 years of service to the Commonwealth. In all, #RadTuesday raised more than $29,000 to benefit Highlanders and the Radford University experience.

Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicked off the charitable season. Radford University faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends were encouraged to wear their Radford red and turn #GivingTuesday into #RadTuesday.

“The success of our #RadTuesday initiative can be attributed to the concerted effort by the Radford family to spread the word and encourage participation,” said Crystal Hubbard, Assistant Director of Annual Giving.

Radford University’s crowdfunding platform The Hive provided a simple way for supporters to make a difference by giving online. “The visual presentation of the campaigns webpage also allowed donors to see the results of their efforts in ‘live time’ and have a visual reference along with compelling content to give context to how their funds will be used to enhance student success,” said Hubbard.

Hubbard said the response to #GivingTuesday was encouraging and exciting. “Some donors were exposed to a new way to support Radford University students on a day set aside across the nation for helping others. It was exciting to see the Radford family come together and show their Highlander Pride,” said Hubbard.
