How to Recycle in Academic/Service Buildings

Separate recyclables in your office according to the guidelines that follow or take your recyclables to the collection area and place them in the appropriate containers. Recycling stations for white/colored office paper, newspapers, magazines/catalogs, pressboard, and cans/glass/plastic have also been placed in the hallway of some buildings. Do not mix trash with recyclables and be careful what you place in each container. The entire shipment of recyclables may be rejected and sent to the landfill if contamination is excessive.

Cans/glass/plastic containers have been placed next to all vending machines and are emptied when necessary.

Mixed paper Recyclables are picked up by housekeeping staff on a weekly basis or as needed. Recycling receptacles for office areas are available upon request, contact the Recycling Coordinator at (540) 831-7207.

Corrugated cardboard should be flattened and placed next to trash cans and is picked up by Housekeeping to take the recyclables to a main Recycling Collection Center located in each building.
