Detailed Description of Conduct of the Course
The course will be customized to the needs of the individual in terms of their research and writing on a particular topic in some aspect of Economics. The student will be guided in his/her endeavor by a committee of three members of the faculty, one of whom may be from outside the Department of Economics. One member of the committee will serve as the thesis advisor and chair of the committee. There will be an oral presentation of the student's research given after the committee has passed on its merits. The details of the presentation will be worked out by the Thesis Advisor and the Chair of the Department.
Goals and Objectives of the Course
Having successfully completed this course, the graduate student will:
1. Demonstrate an ability to write at a professional level.
2. Produce an end-product that represents significant intellectual advancement during the program.
3. Demonstrate an ability either to apply theoretical principles to realistic situations or to exercise inductive reasoning.
4. Reflect a continuing interest in professional matters.
Assessment Measures
Student progress will be evaluated by the end-product of a thesis. In order to insure the quality of the product, it may be appropriate for the student to demonstrate his/her comprehension of the research through some form of oral presentation. The specific means will be at the discretion of the instructor and consistent with the stated objectives of the course.
