MGNT 250: Entrepreneurship and Innovation

Credit Hours: (3)

Provides an overview of the principles, theories, and practice of entrepreneurship and innovation.  Emphases will be placed upon the student understanding how past entrepreneurs have used innovation methods to launch entrepreneurial ventures; and how the student can use their own creativity to launch entrepreneurial ventures.

 

Detailed Description of Content of Course

The following topics will be covered:

  • Understanding one's own entrepreneurial capacity
  • How entrepreneurs in the past became successful
  • How creativity can lead to profitable innovation
  • How innovation can be used to compete against incumbent firms
  • Recognizing the cause of past firm failures

 

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

Day to day class activities will center around projects, lecture, and in-class activities.  A combination of videos, speakers, simulations, and other methods may also be used in course delivery.  Students may also be expected to work in a group setting and make several presentations during the semester.

 

Goals and Objectives of the Course

After finishing this course, the student will be able to:

  • Identify their own entrepreneurial interest and capacity
  • Be able to identify and explain how past entrepreneurs became successful
  • Recognize how creativity can lead to profitable innovation
  • Understand how innovation can be used to compete against incumbent firms
  • Assess the causes of firm failure

 

Assessment Measures

Student achievement will be assessed through examinations, presentations, in-class activities, and written assignments.
