ITEC 625: Web Development

Prerequisite: ITEC 501 and ITEC 502, or Permission of ITEC Department

Credit Hours: (3)

An introduction to a broad variety of web development topics, including client-side, server-side, servers, and design issues.

 

Detailed Description of Content of Course

Topics:

I. Basics

  • TCP/IP, protocols (HTTP, Telnet, usenet, ftp, etc.)
  • HTML – xhtml 1.0
  • Cascading Style Sheets
  • XML

II. Client Side

  • JavaScript
  • Applets (very brief, about how to incorporate into web apps)

III. Server Side

  • cgi
  • JSP
  • ASP.NET

     (Note – both would include database connections)

 IV. Server Software

  • Apache (let them set up their own server)

 V. Web Design Issues

  • Use Cases, Web Structure, & Design Criteria

VI. Multimedia Web Queries
VII. Web Mining

 

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

Lecture and demonstration will be used to present course topics. Students will be expected to use Internet as well as textbook and lecture note resources to complete assignments. The volume of information and assignments will require the students work independently.

 

Goals and Objectives of the Course

The goal is to provide students with familiarity with a broad variety of approaches and technologies available. The students should be able to write a number of types of web software after completing this course, including software based on the material used in the assignments listed below.

  • JSP (with database access)
  • ASP.Net
  • Apache Set-up
  • Web Design
