MUSC 202: Clinical Orientation to Music Therapy

Prerequisites: MUSC 102

This organized and structured experience in a clinical setting involves observation and participation in a clinical setting under the supervision of a board certified music therapist.

 

Detailed Description of Course

This is a reinstitution of the course that was removed 2 years ago. Content of the course is lecture and field experience. The student will receive both field and on-site supervision for work with clinical populations.

 

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

Students will provide mock sessions in class for demonstration of clinical skills. Students will provide direct services, when appropriate, in the field. Students will attend weekly lecture and supervision.

 

Student Goals and Objectives of the Course

Having successfully completed this course, the student will be able to apply clinical services to one specific clinical population, develop goals and objectives to that end and assess effectiveness of music therapy interventions.

 

Assessment Measures

Assessment of success for the class will be determined through weekly clinical logs, supervision by a board certified music therapist, classroom assignments, attendance and participation.
