MUSC 302: Clinical Orientation in Music Therapy

Prerequisites: MUSC 102; MUSC 202; MUSC 313; and MUSC 314 or permission of the instructor.

Credit Hours: (1)

This organized and structured experience in a clinical setting involves observation and participation under the supervision of a board certified music therapist, and may be taken again for credit.

 

Detailed Description of Course Content

The purpose of this course is for the student to practice and implement music therapy techniques in a clinical setting under the supervision of an MT-BC. A variety of topics will be covered over the course of the student’s time in all levels of the class. These will include goal and objective writing, progress notes, charting, clinical settings, treatment teams.

 

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

Lecture will be employed as well as a laboratory/experiential format for preparation of student music therapy field placements.

 

Goals and Objectives

  • To develop a working relationship with varied clinical populations in music therapy
  • To Practice clinical skills on and off site
  • To develop an appropriate clinical writing skill

 

Assessment Measure

Students will fulfill required field placement hours and prepare a student log documenting clinical experiences. Students will be responsible for in class music therapy experiences during lab times.
