MUSC 437. Digital Ensemble
Two hours rehearsal (1).

Pre-requisites: MUSC 128 or equivalent.

Existing and original music is prepared for public performance using electronic sound sources in a chamber ensemble setting. May be taken again for credit.

 

Detailed Description of Content of Course

Applies techniques and skills developed on acoustic musical instruments in combination with knowledge of sound synthesis techniques in a chamber ensemble setting. Emphasis on performance techniques, repertoire, and sound sculpture. May be taken again for credit. Graduate credit requires advanced performance skills.

 

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

Students will rehearse in a chamber ensemble setting using electronic sound sources in preparation for public presentations as scheduled by the instructor of record.

 

Goals and Objectives of the Course

Students should develop the ability and desire to perform works of music written specifically for electronic sound sources. Students should be able to select, adapt and construct sound sources appropriate for varied musical contexts using an electronic control mechanism and one or more tone generators. Performance at a more advanced level of musical and technical ability is expected of students registered for graduate credit.

 

Assessment Measures

Students will be assessed on their ability to prepare music for performance in a convincing manner as a cooperative member of an instrumental ensemble.
