MUSC 553. Chamber Music Ensemble. (1)

Two hours rehearsal.

Rehearsal and performance of chamber music literature from duo sonatas to nonets for strings, winds, mixed strings and winds with or without piano. Open to qualified students. Chamber groups must be formed in advance of registration with consent of instructor. May be taken again for credit.

 

Detailed Description of Content of Course

Study, rehearsal, performance of chamber music works. Students will learn how to approach a new chamber composition, how to organize a chamber ensemble, plan rehearsal procedures and work toward a unified musically well-prepared performance.

 

Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

Students will receive coaching as an ensemble and individually. Rehearsals with and without faculty coaching will occur. Students will work toward a goal of performing their chamber works.

 

Goals and Objectives of the Course

Students are expected to perform successfully in a chamber ensemble and to prepare a chamber work for performance. Student should increase their knowledge of and experience with chamber music repertoire. Performance at a more advanced level of musical and technical ability is expected of students registered for graduate credit.

 

Assessment Measures

Students will be graded on their preparation for rehearsals and performances and their progress through the semester.

 

Other Course Information

An attempt will be made to offer students variety in their chamber ensembles as to personnel and repertoire. They will be encouraged to attend concerts of chamber music and to listen to chamber music recordings.
