Staff bios

Erin Sullivan, Director

Erin Sullivan is a licensed clinical social worker who has been practicing in a variety of settings for more than 20 years. She obtained her masters degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and received her bachelors degree from Mary Baldwin College. She has enjoyed living and working in the New River Valley since 1987.

John Betzel, Counselor

John Betzel is a licensed professional counselor who has practiced in a variety of settings for more than 30 years.  He obtained his masters degree in community counseling from Georgia State University. Originally from Atlanta, Ga., he and his family have enjoyed living in the beautiful New River Valley for the past 15 years.

David Hamilton, Clinical Psychologist

David Hamilton is a licensed clinical psychologist who has been practicing in a variety of settings for over thirty years.  He obtained his doctorate from the University of Virginia, completed an internship in a university counseling center and has enjoyed living and working in the New River for 25 years. 

Deborah Miller, Counselor

Deborah Miller completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin and her master’s degree at Virginia Tech. She has more than 20 years of experience with college-age students and has resided in the New River Valley for more than 25 years.

Hilton Lacy, M.D., psychiatrist

Dr. Lacy is an Adult, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. He completed his general residency at the University of Arkansas and child fellowship training at the University of Virginia. He has practiced in various settings including inpatient, outpatient and at the student counseling center, and recently relocated to the area from Charlottesville, Virginia.

Sarah Kenney, Health Educator

Sarah graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  She has worked in the field of public health for four years, and recently relocated to the New River Valley form North Carolina.

Sandra Watson, Medical Office Assistant

Sandra joined the SCS Office as the Clinical Office Associate in October 2003. She has lived in the New River Valley all of her life and enjoys working with the students and staff at Radford University.

Sherrie Smith, Medical Office Assistant

Sherrie Sherrie Smith has lived in the NRV all of her life.  She has worked as a receptionist for counseling centers for the past ten years and recently joined the Student Counseling Services staff.
