Changes to Parking for Fall 2012

Changes to Parking for Fall 2012

Radford University is embarking on several major capital projects that will provide state-of-the-art facilities for Radford’s more than 9,300 students. These projects include a new 112,000-square-foot fitness and wellness center and a 115,000-square-foot Center for the Sciences.

As a result of these construction projects, several modifications will be made to parking on campus. These changes are expected to go into effect this summer. We acknowledge there will be some inconvenience due to the location of some of the new parking spaces, but these spaces are serviced by Radford Transit. In addition, we are offering a special $7 faculty/staff annual permit for use of the Burlington Lot, which will be serviced by Radford Transit for the duration of this major construction period.

New/Expanded Parking Lots

  • A lot providing 30 faculty/staff parking spaces for the new College of Business and Economics building.
  • Expansion of Lot HH, Waldron Hall, providing 30 faculty/staff parking spaces on the location presently occupied by mobile classrooms.
  • Expansion of Lot S, providing 30 faculty/staff parking spaces at the intersection of Downey and Jefferson streets.
  • The Burlington Lot will add 50 new spaces. For the 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 academic years, faculty/staff who use this lot exclusively can purchase an annual parking permit for $7.
  • Expansion of Lot BB, providing additional faculty/staff parking spaces.

  • Lots E and U, adjacent to the Armstrong Complex will be reclassified and reconfigured to make available 365 faculty/staff and commuter spaces.
  • Approximately 1/2 the spaces near the Dedmon Center, in Lot DC, will be reclassified to make available 156 spaces for resident students.

Closed Lots

  • Lots Q, T, V and W, as well as portion of Lot AA will be closed for construction of the fitness and wellness center.
  • Sections of Lots B and C will be closed for construction of the Center for the Sciences.
  • A section of Lot DD will be closed during the renovation of Washington Hall. That area is expected to reopen by Fall 2013.

While faculty/staff and commuter spaces will be impacted by construction, the changes outlined above result in a net gain of faculty/staff and commuter parking spaces.

To better accommodate users of Radford Transit, a new tracking service is being installed on transit buses. This tracking system will allow riders to use their mobile devices to check the expected arrival time for buses at the nearest stop. The service will be available via a mobile-optimized website, voice message or SMS texting. This service provides convenience to individuals who use Radford Transit to reach campus from a remote lot, as well as those who use the transit system to reach campus from other locations.

The cost of annual permits and adjunct faculty permits will not increase for 2012-2013, remaining at $72 and $18 per year respectively. The cost of summer permits will increase from $15 to $18 and the cost of daily permits will increase from $1 to $5.
