University Police

 

The Radford University Police Department is a full-service, sworn, accredited law enforcement agency devoted to the welfare of the University community. The department enforces state laws and Radford University policy on all property owned or controlled by the university as well as on adjacent streets and sidewalks.

Members of the department are dedicated to maintain and improve the safety, security, and quality of life within our community.

Radford Alert

The Radford Alert system allows us to quickly notify students, faculty, staff and visitors of a potential or threat/emergency that may directly impact the campus community.

From the Chief

The mission of the Radford University Police Department is to work toward providing a safe and healthful living, learning, and working environment for every member of the University community by preserving public order and tranquility, protecting the life and property of all, and providing education and training of citizens and law enforcement personnel for the greater University community and the Commonwealth.

We strive to encourage all personnel to achieve this mission by adhering to our core values of integrity, courtesy, service, and professionalism.  To be an active and effective police force we understand we must serve with professionalism and exhibit our diversity, tolerance, and sustained high standards in policing every day. We must also develop strategies, combine resources, utilize partnerships, and execute programs designed to improve the profession of law enforcement.  Our officers foster cooperation and the exchange of information and experience among the organization and throughout the campus by promoting our values.

    Community Policing Act

    Effective July 1, 2020, the Virginia Community Policing Act was approved, requiring data be made publicly available on the Community Policing Reporting Database.

    The legislative change is in accordance to the Code of Virginia §§ 15.2-1609.10 and 15.2-1722.1.

    Data included: motor vehicle and investigatory stop records, records of complaints alleging the use of excessive force, as submitted by law enforcement agencies.
