Fall Dance Fest 2015

The Radford University School of Dance & Theatre presents a concert of dance as part of the university’s family weekend.  Fall Dance Fest features original choreography by Department of Dance faculty Deborah McLaughlin, Inessa Plekhanova, Amy VanKirk and danah bella. Spend the evening with us enjoying innovative choreography highlighting a wide variety of dance genres including Modern Dance, Classical Ballet and Jazz.

Elegy

Monday, Nov. 2
Bondurant Auditorium, Preston Hall

Radford University Department of Dance will premiere a new work, Elegy. Directed by Amy VanKirk, this evening of modern dance is inspired by the novel "The Things They Carried," by Tim O'Brien, as well as family stories of the Vietnam War from VanKirk and the performers. This work was created as a part of the new transfer and freshman seminar dance course and features the Department of Music Madrigal Singers, directed by David Otis Castonguay. The piece is sponsored in part by the Radford University Scholar Citizen Initiative and will be followed by a brief talk back about the artistic process. Elegy is a part of the The Big Read, a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest, which includes events all over the New River Valley.

Evening of Ballet

The Radford University Ballet Theatre, directed by Inessa Plekhanova, will present its biennial Evening of Ballet. Join us as we embody dance history and share highlights from world famous classical masterpieces.

A shared concert with the dance program from James Madison University (JMU), DanceShare features work by Radford University faculty and dance students and JMU’s Virginia Repertory Dance Company.  See a thrilling performance of movement and laughter.

Jump into spring, experience a broad spectrum of movement styles and diverse musical selections at the School of Dance & Theatre's annual Dancing on the Edge concert. Guest choreographers and the Department of Dance faculty create dance works especially for seasoned dance majors.

Student Choreography Showcase

An evening of exploratory dance, Student Choreography Showcase highlights the voices of emerging choreographers enrolled in the Department of Dance's Choreographic Studies II class. Join us as we laugh, play and holler alongside these up and coming artists.
