The “shadow-illusion” company that made a national splash on “America’s Got Talent”
will close out this year’s University Performance Series. Catapult will bring its
captivating stage show to the Bondurant Auditorium on Tuesday, March 25 at 7:30 p.m.
Catapult’s unique stage magic is created with human bodies and screen projections,
transforming people into unexpected images and bringing stories to life in a distinctive
visual and auditory experience. The result is a meticulously choreographed “shadow
dance” that can carry a viewer from the whimsical to the profound. The effect can
be jaw-dropping.
Catapult Entertainment was founded in 2008, with a mission to revolutionize shadow
dance and to offer audiences a new perspective on performance art. Since its inception,
the group has grown into one of the leading acts in the genre.
Catapult first gained widespread recognition after its memorable television appearance
on “America’s Got Talent” in 2013. The group’s performances mesmerized both the judges
and the audience with its creativity and emotional depth. Their appearance not only
demonstrated their technical mastery of shadow dance but also helped build their reputation
as an innovative and exciting performance act.
Catapult’s performance on “America’s Got Talent” went viral and proved to be a turning
point in their career, drawing widespread attention. The impact of their performance
still resonates today, as it opened doors to tour internationally.
At the helm of Catapult Entertainment is its founder and artistic director, Adam Battlestein,
a visionary choreographer and performer who has dedicated his career to pushing the
boundaries of dance. His approach to choreography emphasizes precision, creativity
and emotional depth, something he developed in his wide range of professional experiences.
Before founding Catapult Entertainment, Battlestein worked extensively in both theater
and dance, honing his craft and exploring new ways to engage audiences. His experience
in both the artistic and technical aspects of performance allowed him to create a
show that was not only visually striking but also emotionally compelling.
Over the years, Catapult has expanded its repertoire, performing around the world
in various venues, from theater stages to corporate events. They have subsequently
refined an act that appeals to all ages, a reflection of their ability to tell engaging
stories.
