Geospatial Intelligence

IMPACT's GEOINT curriculum is aligned with top industry certifications and provides extensive hands-on experience in geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing, spatial analysis and GEOINT analysis.

The IMPACT program prepares learners for industry-aligned certification exams, certificates and other professional credentials. The GEOINT curriculum is comprised of competency-based, self-paced courses that prepare learners for the geospatial intelligence field. Learners will develop knowledge directly related to the core competencies of the Geospatial Technology Competency Model developed by the U.S. Department of Labor and the U.S. Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) Essential Body of Knowledge (EBK) [PDF].

The program focuses on geospatial problem-solving skills, data fusion, geospatial technologies, and applications of these to disaster response, emergency management, infrastructure and resource management, military and policy operations, big data analysis and cyber security. Learners completing the certificate program will be able to use the geospatial analysis techniques, skills and tools to derive meaningful information from geospatial data, solve geospatial intelligence problems in multiple situations and communicate their findings in a professional manner to both professional and public audiences.

IMPACT is built upon Radford University's established Geospatial Science program. It employs research-based practices from cognitive science, analytics, simulation-based learning, virtual reality and gamification in every aspect of its training to ensure it is challenging, highly effective and engaging.

IMPACT is ready to support your Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT) training goals and become your GEOINT workforce strategic partner.

The content for the GEOINT certificate program is designed to:

  • Aligned with top industry certifications:  NCCA-accredited Universal GEOINT Certification, Certified GEOINT Professional- GIS & Analysis Tools (CGP-G), Certified GEOINT Professional- Remote Sensing & Imagery Analysis (CGP-R), Certified GEOINT Professional- Geospatial Data Management (CGP-D), and Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP),
  • Meet the accreditation guidelines of the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) accreditation program in GEOINT
  • Provide knowledge and skills to learners based on USGIF Essential Body of Knowledge (EBK). The GEOINT EBK describes geospatial intelligence competency and practice in terms of key job tasks and essential knowledge, skills, and ability required for a professional to be successful. These competencies are organized into four competency areas:
    • Competency I: GIS & Analysis Tools
    • Competency II: Remote Sensing & Imagery
    • Competency III: Geospatial Data Management
    • Competency IV: Data Visualization
  • Fulfill competencies from the Geospatial Technology Competency Model
  • Engage learners in hands-on experience with state-of-the-art virtualized remote labs.
  • Allow working professionals to earn credits through competencies without requiring any prerequisites beyond a high school diploma.
  • Make learners ready to work in the GEOINT Community immediately upon certification.
  • Meet the growing needs of the GEOINT community.
